Candied Yams

Hi Everyone!

Today's side dish is Candied Yams.  Before you know it, the holidays will be upon us, and we will whipping up the decadent dishes for our guests.  Making Candied Yams are fun.  You can get really creative and add any ingredient that you like.  I like the more traditional yams.  I especially love to serve Candied Yams with Macaroni and Cheese.  Ummmmm Ummmm!  Well, here we go!

You will need the following ingredients:

* Yams
* White Sugar
* Brown Sugar
* Nutmeg
* Cinnamon
* Butter
* Syrup
* Vanilla

Boil your yams in a large pot until soft. Depending on your pot, this may take approx. 45 minutes to an hour.

Once your yams are done.  Put the pot in the sink, and run cold water in it.  Yams get very hot, and you need to be able to handle them.

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Grease your favorite baking dish.

Slice your yams and place them into the dish layer by layer.  Once you have covered the dish with the first layer, you will place scoops of butter on top of the yams.  Now sprinkle your white and brown sugars, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Pour a layer of your favorite syrup.  Repeat this process on each layer.

Place in the oven and bake until golden brown.

Remove and let stand for 10-15 minutes.

Voila!  Serve with your favorite meal!
